Objective
Directly responsible for the management of specific areas with primary objective to provide material flow to the production departments to ensure customer deliveries are met on time. Responsible to procure materials at the highest level of quality, with delivery integrity and the minimum inventory investment. Assist the General Manager in the development of operating budgets pertaining to inventory and material purchases.
Scope of Position:
Responsible for the general administrative and management duties of the various departments or groups within the Supply Chain division through their respective supervisors. Develops and puts into effect, as approved by the General Manager, philosophies, policies and procedures for the assigned areas to achieve the plant goals and objectives as defined by the General Manager.
General Responsibilities:
The Business Operations Manager has responsibility for various departments each with specific charters, as follows:
1. Material Planning – Provide full scope of planning activities – master scheduling, machined/assembled/purchased parts planning and new product planning.
2. Purchasing – Provide full scope of Purchasing activities – procurement of raw materials, commodities, MRO and expense items with JIT/TQC philosophy – domestic and international supply base.
3. Management – manage a group of Commodity Managers, Senior Buyers and Planners.
4. Coordinate inventory, supply chain and product planning with various other departments such as Marketing, Production, Customer Service and Development.
5. Assist GM with plant goals and goal deployment process. Report and present plant operational metrics.
6. Lead direct materials commodity teams. Provide strategic guidance and coordinate meetings and reporting. Coordinate cost savings metrics and monthly reporting. Support cross-business unit activities in supply chain. Present team activities to senior management.
7. Lead plant Lean steering committee. Plan and coordinate all lean activities in the plant. Act as liaison with other plants and business unit lean activities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree required, MBA preferred.
- APICS or C.P.M. certification desired.
- Minimum 3 years experience with Lean Manufacturing
- 9-14 years experience in all aspects of materials management with progressively more responsibility. Must have experience with state of the art computer based materials management system.
- SAP experience desired
