OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Provide a high level of customer service to support the business intelligence function; incorporating market research, market assessments and competitive intelligence into strategic insights for the Therapeutic Areas (including Managed Markets), US Senior Management, and Corporate Management in strategic decision-making.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Manage primary and secondary market research projects, market assessments, competitive intelligence and market data supporting the needs of inline therapeutic areas, managed markets, and new product planning, including:
* Build internal and external capabilities for information collection, including primary and secondary market research activities, market assessments, competitive intelligence and market data for the Therapeutic Areas (including Neurology and Endocrinology) and managed care organizations,
* Through execution of market research, competitive intelligence and market assessment projects, the Manager is tasked with developing conclusions and recommendations that can be used by management and the marketing teams to make better business decisions, better understand customer segments and to identify opportunities and potential risks
* Collaborate closely within CPO to develop and implement methodologies and criteria for using primary and secondary market research, as well as competitive intelligence information, as inputs to the forecasts and market event models; Cover specific projects, as assigned, within current therapeutic areas, managed care, and new therapeutic areas
* Support EMD Serono annual planning processes by providing inputs to the external analysis and therapeutic area landscape
* Influence the teams by building and defending cogent arguments, challenging assumptions and gaining consensus
opinion; Influence business decisions by challenging conventional wisdom with considered, data based points of view
* Provide US-based market research, competitive intelligence and market assessments as inputs into Global Business Intelligence initiatives
* Conduct competitive assessments and other cross functional projects on an ad hoc basis
* Coach, manage and supervise direct report(s) and/or project teams, as appropriate
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* The individual will have responsibility to conduct market research, competitive intelligence and market assessment projects: deciding on the appropriate methods, developing the questionnaire/discussion guides with the appropriate internal resources, supervising their implementation, analyzing the results, presenting the findings to key internal customers and coming up with actionable recommendations
* Provide clear, thorough and consistent analysis: market trends, product performance, market opportunities and potential risks
* Combining awareness of market research results, market assessments, secondary data sources and relevant competitive intelligence, this individual will need to assess the impact of market events on forecasting models for various therapy areas
* The individual will have responsibility to conduct and manage U.S. market research and market assessments in order to provide input into Global Business Intelligence teams
* Maintain relationships with key vendors of market research, competitive intelligence, secondary data, software, and consulting services
* Partner with functional areas throughout company
* Interact with all levels of the organization
* Perform all duties in accordance with the company's Business Principles, corporate directives, government and industry regulations and guidelines
* Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
EDUCATION/LANGUAGES
The individual should have at least a BA in a business related field, or B.Sc. An MBA with an understanding of strategy and financial analysis techniques is a plus. English required
The individual should have a minimum of five years biotechnology / pharmaceutical experience including marketing and market research experience.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
* This position requires knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry, ideally knowledge within our in line disease areas (Neurology and Endocrinology)
* The individual will need experience with the various methodologies of collecting and analyzing data as well as experience with the various methods of market research, market assessments, competitive intelligence
* Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously is required
PERSONAL SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
* Strong PC skills (including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project)
* Knowledge of statistical packages for purposes of analyzing data is desired
* Broad business understanding and ability to work cross functionally
* Position may require both domestic and international travel up to 30% of time
