Job Title: Supplier QA Engineer (3680)
Classification: Exempt
Location: Carlsbad CA

We bring today’s new communication applications to people out of reach of terrestrial networks, in both the commercial and government sectors, with a variety of networking products.
Job Responsibilities:
* Serves as an active quality liaison and main point of contact between Suppliers, Supply Chain Agents, Operations Program Managers, Design Engineering and Product Quality Engineering when major quality problems exist that affect product quality.
* Works with suppliers to obtain and close Corrective Actions and to ensure that root causes have been properly identified and eliminated.
* Responsible for addressing and resolving Supplier issues and driving formal corrective actions.
* Leads the tracking and root cause analysis of designated Supplier’s product/process non-conformances.
* Recommends resolution to non-conformances where appropriate.
* Leads and conducts Supplier Quality Assessments in conjunction with Supply Chain Agents to qualify potential new Suppliers or evaluate existing suppliers.
* Works with existing Supply base to attain and maintain ViaSat standards and with the Supply Chain organization to develop new Suppliers capable of meeting ViaSat’s standards.
* Reviews potential and current key Suppliers’ capabilities and provides input as to acceptable QA Systems and performance. Tracks various key Supplier metrics and report to both Suppliers and internal ViaSat stakeholders (e.g. FPY, QMS performance, responsiveness, cost of quality, etc.). Coordinates, collects and presents quality metrics for key ViaSat Suppliers (e.g. EMS providers, metal and cable Suppliers). Conducts review of Supplier material quality issues and represents QA at Material Review Board. Reviews quality performance of ViaSat’s Subcontractors and Suppliers (and their key subcontractors and
suppliers) and coordinates all necessary Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs) and Failure Analysis Requests (FARs) for improvement. Performs QA surveys and audits of present and proposed Suppliers and Subcontractors to ensure adequate QA systems are in place and are maintained. Ensures systems employ proper flow down requirements to their key subcontactors and suppliers. Ensures adequate quality systems are in place so to ensure quality shipment receipts from their subs and suppliers. Devises and implements world class Quality practices related to Supplier Quality (e.g., Lean Six Sigma practices, JIT, Skip Lot, Dock-to-Stock, Supplier certification, SPC, FMEA, measurement systems analysis, etc.) to move from Quality by Detection to Quality by Prevention at ViaSat subcontractors and suppliers. Assists in implementation of lean manufacturing techniques to enact cycle time reductions and cost savings at ViaSat’s key Suppliers. Assists Inspection Supervisor in managing long range contract inspection services performing Source Inspections. Reviews of in-house Engineering changes for QA requirements and determine if key Suppliers are capable of meeting requirements. Performs surveillance of subcontractor and supplier Manufacturing & Quality systems, controls and procedures to ensure product quality receipts at ViaSat.
Experience/Skills Required:
* Experience assessing new and potential Suppliers to determine if their QMS systems and capabilities meet requirements.
* Familiarity with manufacturing processes associated with CCA assembly and Box Build assembly.
* Strong statistical background including knowledge of Lean Six Sigma techniques; sampling plans, process capability (Cpk), and measurement system analysis (e.g. gage R & R).
* Strong computer skills required (Word, Excel required, Visio desired).
* Ability to flow chart required processes.
* Strong analytical, communication and interaction skills required.
* Quality experience working with electronic assemblies, including SMT CCAs, as well as experience working with both military and commercial quality and product assurance requirements.
* ASQ CQE strongly desired (although not an essential requirement for entry, this certification will be required once in the position).
* Experience with Oracle ERP and Agile Product Collaboration (PC) and Product Service & Improvement (PS&I) modules desired.
